Poem of the week-Elephant Sneezed

What a wonderful illustration for our poem of the week Kali.

I like how you added some words below that mean the same as humongous.

Word Work

We love finding new ways to practice our word work.

Most recently we have been using the ozobots. They read our writing and move along the lines.

Have you got these words in your brain as fast words?

Here are some of our designs

Matchstick Maths

Can you think of a fast way to count 50?

Believe it or not these names have been made out of 50 matchsticks.

We have some very creative Flying Niners!

Meet The Parents

Dear Whanau,

Thanks to all those families who took the time to make contact with me or come in this evening. It was a pleasure chatting with you about how I can better support your child's needs at school.

Also I look forward to meeting those of you who are meeting with me in the coming days.

I look forward to working alongside your family and getting to know you all more as the year goes on.

Here is a link to the notice outlining some special things about our class that you may need to know.

Buddy Challenge Day

What an awesome day. It was really hot and busy. We spent the morning participating in activities with our big buddies in Room 13.

We were all really tired by the end of the day. Thank goodness it's the weekend!

Buddy Class

We are excited to call Room 13 our buddies. We meet with them at 2pm Tuesday afternoon.

Our first decision together was what kind of garden we would like for our buddy garden space.

Our next goal will be to design a layout for how we will plant them.

Swimming

Our swimming times are 12.10pm every Monday, Wedesday and Friday.

We are having a great time in the pool. We need to set ourselves good goal moving forward.

Word Work

To practise the high frequency words (fast words) thatwe need to know we do wordwork. We can choose from a range of hands on activities creating each of the word we need to practise.

The sandpit is really popular at the moment. Check out so pictures of that and other ways to practise our words.

Do you practise your words at home?

Welcome to Flying Niners

I would like to say welcome to all the children and their whanau to the Flying Niners (Room 9). This year is going to be full of new learning, new experiences and a great place for every individual to learn. In fact we are called the Flying Niners because we will soar to great heights in our learning.

I look forward to getting to know you all as the year continues. Please feel free to come in and see me anytime in the classroom or you can send me an email at ebony@russellst.school.nz if you can not make it into school.

Here are a few things you may need to know about our class:

Swimming instruction  is for the first 6 weeks of term 1. Flying Niners will swim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

We will be visiting the hub on Thursday. Please ensure that library books are returned on this day so that the children can issue new books.

Reading folders are an essential item for helping keep books and notices safe and ready to be shared at home. Please ensure that these make it to school every day.

We have a Meet the Teacher evening coming up on Monday 15th February. More information will be coming home about how to book a time for this.

A team newsletter will be sent home by the end of this week with more details about the school year. Keep an eye out for it in your child's schoolbag.

Thanks for taking the time to check our class blog. Further to the TNB found on the Russell Street School website, important notices and information about events for our class will be posted here as well as sharing some awesome learning. Please leave us a comment! Stay tuned for more information on your child's Seesaw learning blog. This is another great place for children to record their individual learning, share it with others to gain feedback or celebrate their accomplishments.

I am looking forward to learning along side you all in the Flying Niners.
