Check out what's happening in our learning!

Here is a live feed of our learning. Each of the students in the Flying Niners have an individual SeeSaw blog. This is the place we share our learning, give and get feedback and feed forward and show how we are going with our goals.

Hiwi the Kiwi with The Minstrel

Today we had a visit from the Minstrel. We loved singing and dancing with him.

He told us lots about how to look after kaimoana and 'fish for the future'.

He also shared some good tips for staying safe in the water.

We really enjoyed the show and can't wait to share what we learned withour  whanau.

Are you a self Managing learner?

We have been doing some thinking around being a self managing learner. It started with our treaty and as the term has gone on we found some more ideas about how we can be "the best ME I can be".
This are the things we think are important in being a good learner and apart of a team.

Wonderful Portraits

We finally have our Portraits completed and ready for the wall. Come in and check them out some time.

Is it easier to give or follow instructions?

On Fridays we do a listening activity. Today we took turns giving and following instructions. We got in pairs and built something out of Lego. We had to give clear, specific instructions to our buddy as they couldn't see. Afterwards we reflected on if it was easier to give the instructions or follow instructions. We discovered that if we are the youngest in the family we found it easier to follow instructions.

Fraction Friday's

We have been having fun with fractions on Fridays.
We have learnt halves and quarters of shapes and sets.
We have learnt how to draw and write fractions.
We found it interesting that half can be made in many different ways. We explored this with Lego and playdough.
We learnt the relationship between halves and doubles.
We learnt words like fair, equal, denominator and numerator.
We learnt that the bigger the denominator the smaller the fraction.
We learnt fractions are FUN!

What dies it mean to be a good team member

Today we tried some activities that challenged our skills as a member of a team.

Some things we decided make a good team are:

Support each other
Help other
Be kind and caring
Talk nicely
Work together

I wonder if we could think if any more?

Swimming with Life Jackets!

Our last day of swimming we got to try life jackets on in the pool. It was fun because the life jackets hold us up in the water. We made a floating circle.

Then we practiced exiting a boat by tipping backwards and landing in the water.

We learned that life jackets can help you in the water and that you must wear them when you are on a boat.

What a cool day.

I like how you added some words below that mean the same as humongous.

Word Work

We love finding new ways to practice our word work.

Most recently we have been using the ozobots. They read our writing and move along the lines.

Have you got these words in your brain as fast words?

Matchstick Maths

Can you think of a fast way to count 50?

Believe it or not these names have been made out of 50 matchsticks.

We have some very creative Flying Niners!

Meet The Parents

Dear Whanau,

Thanks to all those families who took the time to make contact with me or come in this evening. It was a pleasure chatting with you about how I can better support your child's needs at school.

Also I look forward to meeting those of you who are meeting with me in the coming days.

I look forward to working alongside your family and getting to know you all more as the year goes on.

Here is a link to the notice outlining some special things about our class that you may need to know.

Buddy Challenge Day

What an awesome day. It was really hot and busy. We spent the morning participating in activities with our big buddies in Room 13.

We were all really tired by the end of the day. Thank goodness it's the weekend!

Tuesday 9 February 2016

Buddy Class

We are excited to call Room 13 our buddies. We meet with them at 2pm Tuesday afternoon.

Our first decision together was what kind of garden we would like for our buddy garden space.

Our next goal will be to design a layout for how we will plant them.

Sunday 7 February 2016

Word Work

To practise the high frequency words (fast words) thatwe need to know we do wordwork. We can choose from a range of hands on activities creating each of the word we need to practise.

The sandpit is really popular at the moment. Check out so pictures of that and other ways to practise our words.

Do you practise your words at home?
